Horace Pearson was born in 1896 in Stetchworth (Newmarket Q4-1896 3B:512), son of Clemence and Henrietta Julia PEARSON (née HAMMOND).

1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Mill Road, Stetchworth with his father Clemence PEARSON [30] a carpenter, born Thetford; his mother Henrietta Julia [34] born Sawston and brother Harry [7] born Dullingham.

1911 census...Aged 14, he was at Tea Kettle Lane, Mill Road, Stetchworth with his parents and brother Harry (now a gamekeeper).

The pension card has his parents at Station Road, Dullingham.


He enlisted in Newmarket.
The 8th Suffolks were in the Bray-Carmnoy area late in June 1916. Between 23rd-27th they made a couple of raids, neither very effective except for gaining some information, but sustaining a few casualties. Smoke screens were being deployed at this time.

6 were killed on the 26th, four buried in Carnoy and 2 named on the Thiepval Memorial.
